Release Announcement of OPTISHAPE-TS2025

April 28, 2025

We are pleased to announce the release of OPTISHAPE-TS 2025.
The latest version introduces numerous new features and enhancements, including the new Modulus cost function and the contour view feature for solid and shell thickness.

Details

Cost Function Modulus

A new modulus cost function has been added to OPTISHAPE-TS’s shape optimization. It evaluates the modulus―an index used to prevent shrinkage cavities in castings.

Resulting shape without consideration of modulus

modulus=6.2

The figure below shows a result obtained with the Modulus cost function. The left diagram shows a result constrained so that the modulus does not exceed 5.0, while the right diagram has no such constraint.

hen the cross-section evolves into an H-beam shape, thick regions are minimised, shortening solidification time.

* To use this function, Advanced Restriction of Manufacturing Option License is required.

Thickness Contour View

A new feature generates geometry-based contour data.
OPTISHAPE-TS already lets you constrain solid thickness and vary shell thickness; the contour view makes the results easier to interpret.

contour view : solid element thickness

The preceding is an example contour view of solid element thickness. Thickness is calculated as the distance from each node to the nearest surface.
The thickness is displayed as a gradient from red to blue in this diagram, while the gray areas indicate regions where no surface exists within the measurement range.

contour view : shell element thickness

The preceding is an example contour view of shell element thickness. Thickness is calculated as the distance from each node to the nearest surface.
In this case, the shell thickness refers to the value defined in the properties. In OPTISHAPE-TS, both node positions and thickness values can be varied during shape optimization.

Other Enhancements and Improvements

Approximately 70 additional features have been added or improved, including faster computation and a maximum cross-sectional-area measurement for solid elements; numerous known issues have also been resolved.
